Welcome to the website of Ray Berger. On the following pages you will see several examples of his work as a Fine Artist. He has been producing this sort of collage driven work for many years. .
His work has evolved from a lifetimes involvement and commitment to the visual arts. He was a student in London at the Central School of Art & Design where he studied Fine Art and Theatre Design. Subsequently he was invited to join the BBC as an Art Director, responsible for many prestigious programmes. After Leaving the BBC his career took him abroad and he was working in Paris and Holland, as well as work for ITV.
In more recent years he moved to the West Country where he became a Senior Lecturer at Exeter College of Art & Design. The last years have seen him fully committed to his work as a Fine Artist. He aligns himself with Surrealism and identifies his work as taking a ready made image and using it as a template for an abstract idea. Sometimes imagery has to be worked and reworked, new collages added, to reach a satisfactory outcome. The process of creating is the challenge, not always an easy one. His work has been described as a narrative without a story and as a comment on architecture. His father was an architect.
